Alsace "Grand Cru" - Premium Wine Tour
from your accommodation
Description
Alsace has no fewer than 51 Grand Crus terroirs, the home to only the 4 most prestigious grape varieties in Alsace (Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot gris and Muscat), with the only exception of Sylvaner, with its famous “Zotzenberg Grand Cru” (near Strasbourg).
Their names are often mysterious, and the winemakers will be happy to explain their meaning or specificity to you!
These terroirs represent the excellence of Alsace’s vineyards. Grand crus can be found all along the Alsace wine route, of course always on hillsides with good exposure.
During your visit to the winegrowers, you’ll be able to taste the different grape varieties of the Grand Cru hillsides, and sometimes even the same grape variety from several Grands Crus parcels.
The winemakers will introduce you to the wines that are the pride of their estate and will delight your taste buds.
These wines have an incomparable elegance and an uncommon aromatic richness directly drawn by the vine from the soil in which it is planted.
Highlights:
- A total immersion in the world of Alsace’s winegrowers and their wines.
- Three different vineyards, each with its own Grand Cru hillside.
- Alsatian landscapes, villages and roads offer great photos opportunities.
- Tasting of Alsace Grand Cru white wines.
- Advice on tasting, serving and pairing wines.
Your day
9:00/ 9:30 am: departure from your place of residence.
10:00/10:30 am: arrival at the first estate of the day. A family estate in the heart of a typical village of Alsace. This 6.-generation family estate has vines on 2 different Grand Cru slopes.
You can discover the “terroir effect” of the same grape variety.
The tasting can be followed by a visit to the nearby vineyards.
12:00 pm: Lunch in a traditional Winstub, the famous bistro in Alsace, where conviviality and authentic flavours have the first role.
2:00 pm: Departure for a second estate. In the middle of a village with an incredible view of the mythical parcels of classified Grands Crus, you’ll taste the estate’s wines and chat with the winemaker. He’ll explain what makes a Grand Cru terroir so special.
4:00 pm: Visit the 3rd and final estate of the day, where you’ll discover a vineyard that’s been in the family for many generations. The cellar with its typical large tuns, still in use today, will be an important part of the visit.
Of course, you can chat with the winemaker about his way of making wine and his favorite grape varieties!
6:00 pm: return trip to your accommodation.
(This outline program may vary subject to the weather and traffic conditions, as well as the opening hours of the estates)
